I spy with my little eye...

My little eye spied a lot of sights that warmed my heart this morning.Sights of SPRING !!!The reflection of the sun in the puddles of melting snow, the stray cat sunbathing on the roof of our old garage, the first robin, the friendly cow looking at us with curiosity and the bright red cardinal singing loudly his spring songs. My daughter was again the lucky duck who first spotted a robin this spring.
I am glad that the spring is finally coming. With this long and cold winter I started getting depressed.

Illustration Friday:Swim - 2

This is my second submission for this week's topic Swim. The two drawings were completed in ink and watercolor pencils and all out of my imagination.

Illustration Friday:Swim

This week's topic is SWIM.As I had the weekend off and my kid had sleepovers two days in a row I got carried away and came up with four illustrations. But isn't this the whole idea of participating in such kind of challenges?!More inspiration and more drawings! These two were inspired by the web.Don't you love the Internet? One can find all kinds of reference photos, there. So I used an ink pen Pilot because I like its bleeding effects and a wash of watercolor pencils.

Illustation Friday:Eye Glasses

This week's topic is Eye Glasses. There is no much room for imagination there.Everybody who already submitted their illustrations drew or painted people or animals with glasses.Oh,well, I should always remind myself that the most important thing is to create instead of complaining. It took me awhile to decide what to draw.I closed my eyes and the first idea came to me was a lady from the 50-ties.The big and fancy eye glasses with weird shapes were very fashionable at that time.So I looked up for an image on Google to use as a reference picture.I used ink and watercolor pencils. The paper was not very ink pen friendly and that's why my drawing is kind of rough at the edges.

Today

I am usually very slow uploading my pictures in the computer and it is very rare to blog about them on the same day the pictures are taken. So today is one of these exceptional days.I posted the pictures in the order they were taken today.I little glimpse of my day at home.I wish the spring comes here soon...

Illustration Friday:Yesterday

This acrylic painting is not new.I remember the exact date I painted it.It was 4th of July,2008, three months after we went back to our house. In 2007,in August there was a devastating flood that wrecked our little town and our house including. We rebuilt the house and went back at the end of March.During the renovation we transformed one unused, bats infested closet in our house into an art studio.I was sooo happy! To be back home?!!To have my own studio?!?!That made me dizzy from happiness for months. So,on 4th of July, early in the morning, when everybody in the house was sleeping I went up to my studio and painted this portrait of my little daughter using one of my favourite pictures of her when she was about 3-4 years old.So that is what the word Yesterday stands for to me.

Illustration Friday:Talent

For this week's topic TALENT I decided to use one of my old acrylic paintings.I never get tired of  painting and drawing musicians. They look so inspiring and so beautiful submurged in the divine world of music.I have always wanted to learn to play a musical instrument but have never had the oportunity.I am so glad that my daughter is learning to play the trumpet at school and she likes it.I saw the girl in the painting at a concert at my step daughter's school several years ago, took picture of her and used it as a reference.

*****

It is still cold outside. The sunshine would show up for a short while and hide behind heavy clouds. The wind is nasty and kills any the desire for a walk outside.I do not know if it is just me but this winter seems to be very long.I can't wait for the spring to come and to go out with my new camera. So far I try to enjoy it taking pictures in the house. So here we go:
1.a corner in my house 2.my family's favourite soup, noodles and meatballs 3.Ashley 4.a ray of sunshine 5.a rare moment-our two cats sleeping by each other, most of the time they fight

Illustration Friday:Whisper

These two drawings illustrate my idea about this week's topic WHISPER.I think this topic gives a lot of freedom and ignites the imagination.A lot of people went with the image of people whispering in each other's ears but I took the Mother Nature's path. You can picture a quiet winter or fall night with clear skies and lots of stars and when you sand there in awe of this divine silence and beauty you begin to feel like you can hear the whisper of the stars.

Saturday

Busy Saturday.Early rising, short distance trip to watch her basketball games, the last ones for this school year;shopping at the mall and eating out, then back home.It was fun to watch the last two games. They did their best, they grew up a lot in comparison with the first ones.I am proud of her and so happy that she loves it.
Now I am hoping for a slow and quiet Sunday. The pictures are not from today but they describe my mood at the moment pretty good.

Illustration Friday:Wool

This is my illustration for this week's topic:Wool. It is inspired by the Bulgarian folklore.I bet there are few women left nowadays who can spin wool by hand. But I remember when I was a little girl my grandma used to do it sitting on a bench by the gate visiting with the women from the neighbourhood.
My grandparents lived in a small village and this was how the village women used to rest from their daily chores: discussing the neighbourhood news and doing another craft with their hands.

The first three

These three illustrations were the first three for 2013.I did not write any New Year's resolutions but I hope to find more time to draw this year.Whenever I can.Even for 5 minutes. With whatever medium I can find available at the moment.Doing good so far.
I could not participate in the last week challenge of Illustration Friday with the theme: STORM.I drew the illo but did not have the energy to upload it.I have been struggling with my cold for almost a couple of weeks already and still haven't overcome it.It appeared to be a tough one but it is high time to start feeling better.

One Funny Week

It was supposed to be one pleasant week off full of activities I love to do.But...I ended up with a cold. Or may be it was the flu?I can never tell the difference. It was not fun at all,I could not do much.I spent it drinking a lot of tea, watching TV,reading and sketching, birdwatching and pet watching and taking pictures around the house. As I am writing this at the moment I realise that it does not sound too bad actually.

Illustration Friday:Wheel

This is my input for this week's IF.I drew this illustration last summer when I was in the midst of my biking season.I love biking and people on bikes inspire me.I drew the girl in vintage clothes and an old fashion bike because it reminds me about a more relaxed and simple way of life.

DIY makeover

My daughter loved this shirt very much but grew out of it very fast.I loved the design and that's way did not take it to the thrift store.I knew I could make something out of it.Thank God for the Internet, I got the idea while browsing the other people's craft blogs. At that time my daughter wanted to get rid of her night lamp because it was too babyish.I bet you can see that Princess sign and crown! So,I decided to disguise it under a new lamp shade made out of the old shirt with the beautiful design with roses. It matched the color of the base and was so feminine. The sawing machine is not my best friend but I tried to do my best and I am happy with the result.
