Three Sketches From January 22

These are the three sketches I completed while staying home with my sick little girl on January 22.The first one was done from life.We have two bird feeders in our yard and we have a lot of different birds visiting them in these cold winter days but the main attraction are the cardinals. There are two cardinal families visiting our yard regularly. How could I know they are two different families but sometimes they come together.
The other sketch is of my daughter eating an ice cream on a hot summer day.I took the reference photo during our trip to Bulgaria last year.
And this cute boy's name is Anatoly. He belongs to my friend Plamena who lives in Bulgaria.I took his picture when visiting my friend in the summer. My daughter loved to play with him because he was very patient and cuddly.
I completed the sketches with watercolor pencils in a Canson sketch book.

Just A Drawing

It is an old one , just a drawing with an ink pen Micron.I haven't done any new ones. The last day off I spent in front of the TV watching the inauguration of the new president Barak Obama. It was really exciting.Could have done some sketches but did not feel like that. For today I planned to paint with acrylics but my daughter is at home, sick with a cold and I will try to do some sketches.

Inspirational Cards#4and5

These are my two new inspirational cards,I made them today. The first one is called Green Eyes and the second one My Music.
For the first one i drew the cats on a piece of newspaper, painted them with acrylic paints, cut them out and glued them on orange card stock and then pasted that to chipboard.
For the second one I drew the image of the girl with the violin, painted it with watercolor pencils.Cut it out and pasted it to a piece of scrapbook paper.Actually it is one of those pieces of paper that are called Art To Borrow and come as a bonus with the issues of the Somerset Studio magazine.I cut the roses from scrapbook paper and embellished the piece with the strip of lace.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas to everybody and tons of inspiration to the people who like art, love art, enjoy doing art, breath art and can't live without it.

These are two of my mixed media creation which I talked about the last time.I called them inspirational cards.I am not sure if I came up with this name or I borrowed it from somewhere but I like it.They are 4x6 and they can easily fit in a photo album with pockets.I prefer this size better because it is kind of easier to work on than the ATC size.To make them I did collage, used stamps, painted with acrylics, drew, doodled, used different kinds of papers.I hope you enjoy them.

Sonya Watching Barny

This is another page of my art journal- a double sketch of my daughter at the age of three.
I am not in a mood of painting today- too busy getting ready for Christmas.I have to wrap some presents ,to get the stoking fillers ready,to write and send some cards to relatives here in town and so on little things that are time consuming.
I will be happy if I have a little time for a sketch or a mixed media something.I have finished three mixed media cards which I would call inspirational cards but I haven't found the time to upload them in the computer and post them in my blog.
It is still very cold outside as it was the last three days. This morning when I took my daughter to school it was 6 bellow zero.It felt cold but not so bad. There was not any wind which was nice.I don't want to sound crazy but I love winter, especially the winter sunny and snowy days.

A Page Of My Art Journal

When my daughter was a little baby I did not have much time for painting but the urge to create was so strong that I would use every little bit of time to do something art related.
I concentrated on art forms that were not so time consuming or bigger projects that could be done in small segments of time.So that time I did a lot of sketching and got interested in artjournalling that gives you a lot of freedom and allows you to experiment with different media.I finished one journal that time, doing some collage ,some sketching and drawing, some stamping, some paper decorating and page designing.I would sketch and draw on stray pieces of paper at work during my breaks and would incorporate my sketches in my art journal pages.I would work on card projects and would try new ideas,I would even write down some recipes for delicious dishes.
Now I spent more time painting and keeping my two blogs up to date.I also spent time on the website of Wet Canvas which is kind of time consuming. But I kind of miss my art journal and I am not going to be surprised if I start another one pretty soon.In the next several posts I am going to show some pages of my art journal. This particular page was created with bits of paper I designed myself with acrylic paints and with stamps I made myself out of school erasers.

At The Park 2

This is another one of the series "At the park".I sketched it almost at the same time as the first one but it took me forever to paint it in color.I sketched it from life at the school park when I picked up my daughter from school. Here she is helping another girl to swing.I used an ink pen Millennium, watercolor pencils and a water brush.

At The Park

I drew this sketch at the beginning of this month.I went to pick up my daughter from school with the intention to take her for a walk as the fall day was wonderful, warm and bright. We could not go farther than the school park which was bursting with kids and parents enjoying the beautiful weather. When my little one went to play with the other kids I noticed this girl reading her book bathed by the bright afternoon sunshine and did a quick sketch of her.I used an ink pen Millennium to do the sketch and later at home I finished it with watercolor pencils and a water brush.

Sketches from Bulgaria

I am back from my trip to Bulgaria.I had wonderful time with my family and friends.I even had a little bit time to sketch. It usually happened when I was relaxing at the parks waiting for my daughter to play on the swings and slides.I took tons of pictures which I intend to use for references for my future paintings.
We did not have much luck with the weather, though. After the first three hot days it became cold even colder than in Minnesota. The temps dropped from the nineties to the sixties with wind and rain.My plans to take my daughter to the seaside failed.I was disappointed too because I hoped I would take beautiful pictures of seascapes, boats and old Bulgarian architecture which make a wonderful subject matter for paintings.
Here you can find three of my sketches done with ink in my sketchbook. The brand of the pen is Millennium, made in Japan.I have tried different ink pens and this one is my best choice so far, fine nib and no bleeding when washes applied.

Memories

I am almost ready for my trip.My suitcases are packed,I just have to throw a couple more things and zip them up.
That is why I kind of relaxed and let myself play around with some paints.I go on trying new things. This one was painted with gouache in my sketchbook. The paper was lightweight and it buckled a little bit.I should have gessoed the paper beforehand.
I borrowed the topic from IllustrationFriday.com.I like to browse this site although I am not a member.I get a lot of inspiration from there seeing so many great works. So,the other day I started thinking what would I paint if I had to participate in the monthly challenge named Memories.I came up with this painting of two kids playing with chickens. When I was little I loved to visit my grandparents' village and play with the domestic animals and my cousins.

Sketches

There hasn't been much time for art recently.I am getting ready for my trip to Bulgaria in September and I am too excited to sit and paint.I had some troubles in connection with that trip.I realised that I lost my daughter's passport 20 days before the trip and I was very upset about that. But now everything is OK.It appeared that if you use a travel agency services they can issue a new passport within ten days.
And also my daughter had a birthday the other day and I was busy getting ready for her party. The party turned out to be a big success and my little girl said it was the best birthday party she ever had .
These two sketches of her are from the last year.I have some new ones but I have to take pictures of them and upload them in the computer.
