March
Happy month of March everybody! It is nice to think that spring will be here pretty soon. This winter was very nice to us in this part of the world but I miss the flowers and the birds, the sunshine and the bike rides.
Today I had a quiet day off work in the company of our pets.It was not a very productive day, just a relaxing one.Actually while watching my favourite talk shows I made two Martenitsas. It is a Bulgarian tradition when people give each other little creations made out of red and white yarn in the beginning of March. The red color is a symbol of health, the white of prosperity. It is like you wish your loved ones have all the health and prosperity in their lives. You can see my Martenitsas in the first picture.

Hello,August!
Where did July go?It passed so fast!I was planning to blog a lot,to post more pictures from our trip to Bulgaria. What happened?I don't know.Maybe the beautiful weather was in the way urging us to go out and enjoy it while we have it.Bike rides, tending a vegetable patch, play dates for the guinea pigs, hanging the laundry on the clothes line outdoors. The wonderful little joys of summer!
And then the horrible things that happened in the world...leaving me in deep sadness, helpless to find words to express it.Random cruelty, wars, hundreds of innocent lives taken. When will it end...?It is hard to find words...

Spring.Postcards from our garden.
There is some relieve and joy and happiness that spring is finally here.It is still cooler than it is supposed to be at this time of the year but the flowers are blooming, the birds are chirping and the sunshine shows up once in a while. Our Guinea pigs had their first play date outside. It was fun to watch them hopping and running around the pen.As you can see we have a new Guinea pig.His name is Pip/My daughter got him as a present from a friend. He is very cute and likes to be petted. What he does not like is to be picked up.He gets very nervous when he is in the air and starts squealing just like a pig.I am going to post more pictures of Pip in the next posts for sure. All the pictures in this post but the second one were taken by my daughter. She is getting really good at that!

It feels like summer
It feels like summer finally! I started to believe that eventually it will come. On Thursday we had the nicest day for this spring. All sunshine and summer warmth. Oh god, how we need that! Yesterday was not bad too. There were clouds once in a while but as a whole nice. We took a good advantage of the warm weather and went on a bike ride to Peterson.10-11 miles total. My girl was even more motivated than usual because I promised a lunch at Burdey's Café. She loves this place. The food is so delicious there and the prices are very nice. She doesn't care about the last one but I just want to mention it as a "bill payer". On our way back we took pictures of wild flowers and the beautiful scenery. Back at home we decided that it would be fair for the Guinea pigs to enjoy the beautiful weather so we took them out to their play pen. Yes, it was a wonderful day spent with my daughter. And not only this day, the whole week was so sweet because I had it off. Too bad it is coming to its end. It is always so precious to spend time with the people you love and to do things you love to do. I enjoyed every single minute of my little vacation.

Friday night
Last night after supper my daughter and I took the Guinea pigs outside to their play pan. They love to be outside to run and graze fresh grass. The weather was wonderful despite the predictions for thunderstorms. It was warm and sunny with a pleasant light breeze. It was so nice to relax after the hard day and just soak in the moment , watching the world around and listening to my kid's never ending stories.. The sunset was gorgeous and my first reaction was to run in the house for my camera. Enjoying the beautiful evening we were amazed to see how busy and ever changing the world around us was. The skies and the clouds changed their colors several times till the sun sat down. A baby robin fell out of its nest and landed on our old garage roof. I hope it will survive the hardships of its little life. A flock of Canada geese flew by honking loudly over our heads. A bunch of martins were upset by our presence in the garden and were flying nervously back and forth screaming loudly. Only Mama Cardinal was laying still in her nest by the garage because she had a very important job to do-to hatch her little eggs. I could sit out there for hours and just be. It is amazing how the littlest things could give us so much pleasure.
The last two pictures show my daughter's project for her Science Fair at school. She did a great job doing it all by herself. That was the last big event before the summer vacation which by the way has officially started. Yey ,Summer!!!
Some of the pictures in this post were taken by me ,some by my daughter.

Spring...finally!
The lost spring finally found us.It was so warm and spring like yesterday. The day was full of outdoor fun and a lot of first time things happened. For the first time we went on a long bike ride, eight miles. It was Hurby's first time outdoors for this year and Scruffy's first time out in his entire life.He was a little bit scared at the beginning but then he loved it and was hopping around the pen from joy.Yesterday I spotted the first miniature irises in our garden.Pretty!

December
It does not feel like winter yet.It is getting colder but we don't have snow,so far.My kid can't wait for the snow to come hoping for white Christmas.
Although it was gloomy last weekend it was pretty mild and good enough for a walk and a bike ride.It is amazing how we can still ride our bikes in December!I took her and a couple of her friends to the park on Sunday. On Saturday she had a couple of other friends on a sleepover at our house and they baked Christmas cookies. They also had a lot of fun playing with her Guinea pigs,

Scooter
Yesterday we went to the pet store to buy my girl's early birthday present. We bought another Guinea pig, a friend for Hurby. He is still a baby and is very, very cute. She named him Scooter and she already loves him as much as she loves Hurby. We introduced them to each other on the floor and it went pretty good but the cage bonding was not very successful. They had to sleep in different cages.
I hope they will get used to each other and become friends. The first three pictures are of Hurby and Scooter. The last three are of some happy rats goofing around and this very active parrot who would not stand still even for a minute. That's why the only good picture of him I could take was upside down.
