On The Third Day Of Blogging

On the third day of her vacation at home momma still enjoys her Me time.
Yesterday because of the snow storm the school was canceled and the kid was home bouncing around and having the greatest time of her life.Computer games,TV,playing with her little friend A.,snow forts and so on.
And today was my turn to have fun. After I took her to school I went cross country skiing. It was my first time for this winter.I had the three ideal conditions to do it: perfect sunshiny weather, fresh snow and the most important thing desire.
I have been feeling a little sluggish and depressed recently and blamed the lack of sunshine on that.I think this has been the first sunny day at least for a couple of weeks.
And now this beautiful sunny day gave me a boost of energy.

Seven Days of Blogging

I have seven days of vacation which I am spending at home. So,I decided to try to blog every single day of my vacation. It has never happened to me before.I think it is not hard to find interesting tings to blog about.
My vacation started yesterday and I already had a post yesterday.
In the first picture you can see the two project I am working on and Ashley our nine year old cat.

These are going to be a pair of crocheted slippers.

And this is my granny squares throw pillow in progress.

And this is the other one, too late for the shoots. But who can resist so much cutiness.

Anniversary

Yesterday it was my second anniversary of starting this blog of mine-Vanyas Art Journal.I started it as a free style blog where I could share my experiments with different media like watercolors and watercolor pencils,
ink,collage,pastel,journaling,card making and so on.
In the process of journaling about my art adventures I started feeling like getting more personal and included some things from my every day life.My attitude towards photography changed. I try to be more creative and artistic with my pictures.
My interests widened too.My last passion as you can see is fiber art or crocheting and knitting.
But the most important thing about my blogs is that I have fun.I am grateful for the people who visit my blogs and read them and for the people who take time to leave a comment.
Thank you guys.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy blogging.

Little Birdy

This is a drawing from the last year.It still sounds weird to call 2009 last year.I tried to render the image with a few lines.Ink pen and watercolor pencils.
Today I did not paint but tried to fix some old paintings of mine-some clouds, some trees, some leaves.I also signed a couple of them and varnished three or four. The second part was boring.

Lazy Weekend

This is the way I feel during the weekend.Time to relax, time to try new things, time to go for a walk.
Naa.Did not stick my nose out of the door.
Felt more like reading your blogs ,guys, and crocheting.
Tried new patterns, made some tags for my items and blogs,blogs,blogs...
I doodled this thing during the break at work a couple of days ago.
I worked on those things last week.

Tried to make some granny squares. It will be my first attempt for a throw pillow with this kind of pattern.

Finished Project

This little fellow was finished just before Christmas.I did not want to start the New Year with too many unfinished projects.Anyway there are a couple little ones that are gathering dust in the boxes and I have to find that special moment of inspiration to finish them.

/He was tired of waiting to be finished./

Baklava

No,I did not make it.I bought it from Wal Mart. Two years ago I was surprised to discover that they deliver it for Christmas.Only for Christmas. It is my comfort food for the Holidays. It is a part of the Bulgarian tradition to have baklava at this time of the year.I remember how I helped my mom to make it.It is made from filo dough, lots of wall nuts and thick sugar syrup.

Handmade Christmas

Just decided to share some of the handmade decorations on our Christmas tree. They have been made by me with a little help of my daughter.
For the felt heart and the Madonna
I used the picture that you have left over when you use all the twenty post stamps of the panel.I laminated it and attached it to the heart. It reminds me about the Christmas we spent in the FEMA trailer after the flood.I felt so grateful and happy for being able to survive and having a roof over my had.
Don't you love that pink Christmas tree?It is entirely my daughter's design ans completion.
The sculptured Santa is made out of Sculpey clay and it was inspired by a Hallmark Christmas decoration.I had to bake it in my toaster oven and painted it with acrylic paints. The other felt heart and the Christmas tree were a team effort.I was trying to teach my daughter how to sew by hand,so I had to hold the cloth for her and make sure she did not poke her fingers.

Stranded at home

And here she came. The blizzard that started slowly yesterday afternoon. It snowed the whole night and the whole day today. And it is pretty windy out there. It is loosing its strength and I hope it is going to clear up tomorrow. But today there was no school ,no daycare and we could not make it to work.Judging by the cars in front of our neighbours houses we were not the only ones stranded in the house.

There isn't anything better than a bowl of warm homemade potato soup on a such a cold snowy day.
And also I watched my daughter's first attempts in the abstract arts with watercolors and crayons.

Just a post

This has been the way our street looked like for more than three weeks.War zone, building site ,etcetera.
They are changing the water and sewer systems. It is noisy, you can't hear your own TV.The ground is shaking as if there is an earthquake of the highest level and I can hear every cup in my china cabinet shifting and clinging.
I hope they will wrap it up soon because the real winter is coming. We are expecting a blizzard today ,between 6 and 9 inches of snow.
